Mitihoon – In an effort to champion the Thai food and functional food industry, Informa Markets highlights the capabilities of businesses in northern Thailand in research and development, as well as the production of high-value agricultural products—assuring investors of new opportunities to expand their production activities or secure high-quality suppliers and partners from other regions that will support Thailand’s goal of becoming a global food production hub.
The capabilities and potential of Thai food producers will be showcased at “Food ingredients Asia Thailand 2025” (Fi Asia Thailand 2025), Asia’s leading exhibition for food ingredient and extract innovation, and “Vitafoods Asia 2025,” the region’s largest showcase of food extracts and dietary supplements. These two major food and functional food exhibitions will be held simultaneously in Bangkok from September 17–19, 2025, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC).
The exhibitions will also connect Thailand with untapped opportunities in new markets through networking and collaboration with international food and functional food-related businesses. According to Ms. Rungphech Chitanuwat, Regional Portfolio Director – ASEAN, Informa Markets, this will not only open up new business opportunities but also empower Thai business operators to add more value to their products and prepare for future economic uncertainties.
To clearly showcase the capabilities of Thai businesses from different regions across the country, Informa Markets also organized the “Northern Food Ingredients and Nutrition Expo” in Chiang Mai as a prelude to the two main exhibitions.
The expo serves as a platform for local businesses in Northern Thailand to present a wide range of promising ready-to-export agricultural and processed agricultural products with strong potential for development into high-value extracts. These products have attracted significant interest from both government and private sector organizations, leading to collaborations in research, development, and product innovation.
The Northern Food Ingredients and Nutrition Expo aims to foster networking and unlock new opportunities to help the food industry enhance the value of its products and offerings.
Global Health Industry Shows Strong Growth, but Tariff Barriers Require Vigilance
Rungphech cited recent data from the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), which indicates strong and sustained growth in the global healthcare industry. According to a recent GWI survey, the sector is projected to grow at an annual rate of 8.6% through 2027. The global market value is expected to exceed USD 8.5 trillion (approximately THB 306 trillion), nearly double the size it was in 2019—significantly outpacing the growth rate of the global economy.
In Thailand, the government has set a clear goal to establish the country as a leading international healthcare hub, with the health and wellness industry projected to reach a value of over THB 800 billion by 2027.
However, recent tariff barriers introduced by U.S. President Donald Trump, similar to measures faced by several other countries, present a challenge. While these trade obstacles are anticipated, Thailand is positioning itself to overcome them by adding value to its processed agricultural products through advanced technology. This strategy is expected to enhance the competitiveness of Thai food supplements and wellness products, opening new trade opportunities in regions such as Europe, Asia, and beyond, while reducing dependence on any single market.
Increase Value of Agricultural Products, Capture Opportunities in New Markets
Rungphech added that Thailand’s strength lies in being one of the world’s top exporters of high-quality food, supported by a large number of high-potential producers across the country. Organizing international trade fairs that create new opportunities for local businesses to showcase their untapped potential is a significant step toward helping Thai producers enter new global markets. These events also demonstrate to international investors that Thailand is ready to become a global hub for food and functional food.
“It is crucial for Thai businesses to quickly adapt to new economic conditions and evolving international trade rules—such as emerging tariff barriers,” said Rungphech. “But amid this uncertainty, there are great opportunities. We can increase the value of agricultural products by developing food ingredients and helping local entrepreneurs recognize and seize new opportunities today to build a brighter future tomorrow.”
Don’t miss the new business opportunities provided by the Informa Markets’ two major food exhibitions – Fi Asia Thailand 2025 and Vitafoods Asia 2025, scheduled for September 17-19, 2025 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC).
