Mitihoon – WHA Utilities and Power Public Company Limited (WHAUP) has partnered with renewable energy developer Gurin Energy to establish two joint ventures, “Stella Power 1” and “Stella Power 2”, which will invest in two solar farm projects with total installed capacity of over 128 megawatts. They have already signed Power Purchase Agreements with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). The company announces its commitment to move business forward and bolster energy security for the country, while concurrently promoting environmental sustainability.
Mr. Somkiat Masunthasuwun, Chief Executive Officer of WHA Utilities and Power Plc (WHAUP), disclosed that the company has co-invested with Singapore-headquartered Gurin Energy, an experienced renewable energy company with investments in various renewable energy projects across Asia. Together, both sides have formed two joint ventures, namely Stella Power 1 Co., Ltd. and Stella Power 2 Co., Ltd. in which WHAUP holds a 51% stake each, to support the solar farm investments.
“The collaboration between WHAUP and Gurin Energy combines their expertise and experience in renewable energy development to jointly develop the two solar farm projects. That’s why they were selected by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to be one of the developers of Phase 1 renewable energy with Energy Ministry’s Feed-in Tariff scheme. Meanwhile, Stella Power 1, located in Ratchaburi province, with a power-generation capacity of 69.3 MW, is scheduled to start commercial operations in 2029. Stella Power 2, situated in Kanchanaburi province, with a capacity of 59.3 MW, is expected to begin COD in 2030. The two projects have the total capacity of 128 MW. The projects will contribute significantly to Thailand’s energy security, and represent a significant step forward in the development of environmentally friendly renewable energy practices. This initiative aligns with WHAUP’s commitment to building sustainable business growth and developing renewable energy projects that will create a greener world,” said Mr Masunthasuwun.
Miss Ratchaneewan Pulnil, Country Manager, Thailand of Gurin Energy, said: “We are delighted to have secured the power purchase agreements with EGAT alongside WHAUP, demonstrating recognition of Gurin Energy’s proficiency in delivering clean energy solutions and our in-depth understanding of local market.
